Acting with Dialogue

Acting with Dialogue, for dailies the 17-12-2010 from Stine Agerskov Frandsen on Vimeo.

we've had two weeks to make an animation to a piece of sound. Erik Schmidt, our teacher, had found a dozen clips to choose between, and I figured this piece was niece. It has a sad bitterness to it which I find inspiring. We started out with figuring out the character. who is she? Her name, age, life, what is her want and why? It was really cooll to try out animating facial and lipsync for the first time in 3D. It was very difficult as well, and it still needs a bit of work, but I do like it noe the less. Enjoy!

trailerproject - done

trailer project from Kenneth Ladekjær on Vimeo.

The cg artists have finished the trailerproject, and I can now proudly present the work of Fie Tholander, Nikki Starostka, Martin Pedersen, and my fellow animators Benny Søhave and Kenneth Ladekjær. It has been a lot of fun, a great project, and I am proud of what we have done in such a reasonably short amount of time. Enjoy!

more monday fun

A tiger! Well, in a photoshop mood. Here's a quick tiger I made (from the time when i uploaded my last post and till now). For my cousin Kasper (soon to be 18 years old. So what if it's a childish drawing!)

The fun of monday

Felt like making something that I hadn't done in a while. This time I only used photoshop, and made the mistake of not having a particular character in mind. But it was fun to make anyway.

Friday 3 December 2010

panda number two

yet another panda. Watched Kung Fu Panda scenes in super slow motion, trying hard to gain the secret knowledge of making awesome animation. This put me in quite a panda mood. Felling all overwhelmed by christmas, I have chosen to give this to my cousin Louise.

midnight panda

Is sitting at school, it's kind of late, and I have just drawn a quick panda in photoshop. Made me think of my brother, and I have therefor given it to him. hope he likes it.

trailerproject; playblasts

trailer project v002; minor fixes from Stine Agerskov Frandsen on Vimeo.

the cga class have been working in groups of four or three people on redesigning an old film and making a trailer for it - they have been working on the project since september. I worked with three animators on the project Jules et Jim, directed and created by Nikki, Fie and Martin from the CGA class. They have made the designs, the animatic, the modelling, the rigging... everything that is not animation. This bit is the scenes I have been animating. Can't wait to see it all with lights and all. going to be pretty!
please make the view large.

Lift-facial

Lift-facial from Stine Agerskov Frandsen on Vimeo.

The exercise of the last week and three days. This was meant to teach us about lifting something (weight), facial and how to use constraints in Maya. For the first time we have also been using a few scripts; zvparentmaster made the constraints a lot easier.
I hope to get some time to work more on this assignement - I think I have a nice basic animation, and it could use some finesse and more frames to linger on some poses. It was loads of fun to do an acting scene again - the last couple of assignments have been cycles, which is nice but a lot more strict.

After dailies I made a few small adjustments, mostly timing. I hope to get back to this assignemnt - it could still need something special, and hopefully I will get better at making that special thing during the next couple of months.

Lift, 3D blocking WIP from Stine Agerskov Frandsen on Vimeo.

at the moment we are doing a lift, our teacher is Sidney Padua. It's been a while since we've had an exercise that was not a cycle, and it's fun to be back in a less strict environment. I am trying to focus a bit more on planning and working my keys properly. We have the entire next week to be working on this, including learning theory on facial and the dynamics of lifts.
These two animatics are based on videoreference I made the first evening.

A lot of sketches

I am trying to achieve one of my goals for this semester - fill out an entire sketchbook. I went to Flensbourg, Germany, during the autumn holiday where I got some new markers. How I love markers, and my new skincolour collection from copics is awesome.
These sketches represent: some fanart (I like Despicable me and the artist who is doing "hark, a vagrant") and a lot of my own stuff. Watercolour or markers or nothing.

Daisy walk, before dailies

Daisy Walk, before dailies session from Stine Agerskov Frandsen on Vimeo.

My first fourlegged walk. I have already done some changes, and our teacher, Sidney Padua is going to comment on those and probably help me fix it a bit = I am going to post another version (a better version) of this walk in a couple of days). I do think I managed to do an okay walk.

Friday 5 November 2010

Carrot salesman

At the animation Workshop we have an ongoing project called TAWMonkey. Every week there is a new topic, and we just make a drawing for it. this week it was carrot salesman, and for the first time my mind came up with a drawing very fast. This is just a quick sketch, coloured with makers.

Sunday 10 October 2010

Sketches, croqui and such

It's been a while since I've uploaded stuff from my sketchbook. Here is a "best of the month" sort of.

The work of this week - a standard walk. Did I have a lot of trouble with this...

Tuesday 5 October 2010

Sketch, girl on floor

Didn't know what to do last evening. In the end I opened up photoshop and tried to make´something. anything. and a pink blob of colour became the head, inspiring me to continue. It didn't take too long, and I still don't know what to think of it.

Hogan Bow

The Bow from Stine Agerskov Frandsen on Vimeo.

We had a week to do this animation - inclluding using videoreference. Imagine he is wearing a hat, taking it off and in the end holding it in his hands.

Tuesday 28 September 2010

Quick photoshop Viking

A quick photoshop sketch. I drew the helmet, and underneath the viking popped out.

Hogan poses

hogan poses from Stine Agerskov Frandsen on Vimeo.

To get to know Hogan, we had to do a set of seven poses showing a set of emotions embarassed, inhibited, frantic, smug, deflated, nervous, and finally we could choose between interested, exposed or tolerant.

Breaking down poses

Breaking down poses, action Movement from Stine Agerskov Frandsen on Vimeo.

People were feeling a bit overwhelmed by Hogan, and we took a step back. We had to make two poses and a couple of breakdowns for an action movement. We only had a day.

Hogan, Shifting weight

Shifting Weight, Hogan from Stine Agerskov Frandsen on Vimeo.

The assignment of the last day and a half. Hogan should shift his weight and react to something. It's my first go with a full character.
I did have some problems with IK arms, I might try FK for the next assignment.

Monday 20 September 2010

Drawings coloured, sketches

As promised now with water colour.
And a set of sketches drawn from the music video for "Day 'n' Night" by Kid Cudi vs Crookers, a video I find hilariuos.

Floursack Performance

Floursack Performance from Stine Agerskov Frandsen on Vimeo.

The work of the last few days - wednesday afternoon to friday afternoon. I had no idea about what I wanted to do with this assignment - just make the floursack do something, either dance or some kind of act. Since i couldn't come up with a story I ended up doing a dance.
Music is Daft Punk, Around the World.

Thursday 16 September 2010

New sketchbook for the 3rd semester

Once again the school has given us an entire sketchbook to be filled this semester - this time I am planning on filling every single page. These sketches are from the first couple of weeks. They will probably be coloured with watercolour some of them. Gonna be great!

Floursack Hop Cycle

Floursack Hop Cycle from Stine Agerskov Frandsen on Vimeo.

Yesterdays work. We got a few hours to do this - I really wanted to focus on twisting the character, in order to use the 3D space. I think I succeeded, though I still think it pops a bit. Less than originally, but found it a hard fix.

Photoshop Creature

Had a couple of spare hours today and since I was already at the school, I opened up photoshop. Again, i wanted to do something different, which ended up in this drawing. I most certainly need more practise.

Luxo lamp, take

luxo lamp, take from Stine Agerskov Frandsen on Vimeo.

Firstly, the assignment. We had a couple of days to make the lamp jump, and we had to copy-paste the jump. The lamp would then have to stop and do a take. And we had no more than 200 frames to work with. If I could change something now, I would try to make the extreme on the take less extreme, and I would make the head less bouncy on the jumps.

Tuesday 7 September 2010

Luxo Lamp, jump cycle

Luxo Lamp, Jump Loop 2 from Stine Agerskov Frandsen on Vimeo.

the first of the stuff from the last week, which I felt like uploading here. We have just started learning how to use Maya which, I am happy to say, I am enjoying quite much at the moment.
There will be more - second year, here we go!

Oh, do I miss the sun. The summer started warm and full of sunshine. And now - yes, rain and wind. Sigh. I wish suns could do like this.

Summer monster

Yet a monster. wanted to try out a new style.

small landscape

A small landscape I did... I kind of like it, being one of the few of it's kind. I am not very landscape oriented.

Summer monsters

I felt like drawing monsters during the football world championship final. My team was loosing, which meant I did not feel guilty about letting the creative energy take over.

summer sketches 2010, France

Once again, I went to France for two weeks this summer - with my family. I drew a bit, and here I have collected the ones I liked the best. most of the drawings in this post are sketches of the people by the pool.

Wednesday 7 July 2010

Congratulations on finishing "gymnasiet"!

My brother and his girlfriend just finished gymnasiet and I felt like making them a card each. My brothers girlfriend got the elephant, which might be a bit too childish. I didn't know what to draw, so I just let my imagination come up with something. And I like it.

Exam, first year, second semester

Exam, first year, second semester from Stine Agerskov Frandsen on Vimeo.

Our exam at the end of first year. We got 5 days to do a 100 frame animation of bill from Family Dog. He had to take the last step towards the chair, turn on the tv, sit down and then suddenly jump up, land and look back at the dog. At this moment I do not know if I will pass or not, but I am fairly sure this animation is quite good enough.

news: I went to the interview about the exam. I got the next best grade, which I am proud of. They liked my timing, which I got 5 out of 5 points for. Nothing was considered bad, just with minor flaws that comes with being new to animation.

Monday 7 June 2010

colour class with Lawrence Marvit

The last class of the year; colour class with Lawrence Marvit. Colour is in no way easy to get right. and I failed big time. but I had fun, and this is what I did the entire week. top picture is the first thing I did, trying to copy an impressionistic painting. next ones are me trying to put colour onto a Gustave Doré drawing, and the last ones with the monster is "monster taking over ancient rome", trying to make light work. Difficult! But again, fun, and I most certainly learned a lot.

different sketches, May-june 2010 no 2

More stuff from my skecthbook of the semester. And some concept development for "Slughter".

different sketches, May-june 2010

Some stuff from my sketchbook, now handed in for the school, because it's the end of the semester. This time I almost filled the entire book, which I am rather proud of.

Oscar walking

Oscar walking from Stine Agerskov Frandsen on Vimeo.

a small "do what you want with this character"-exercise. The character is not one of my characters, it was given by the school, probably from a poudriere co-production. It is made in Flash, this is my first own animation in this program.

Tuesday 18 May 2010

two owls

Yesterday I felt like doing something for the fun of it. I really love the owls, even the fish-like wings. I messed up the background though.

Friday 7 May 2010

Slugther

Untitled from Stine Agerskov Frandsen on Vimeo.

The last two weeks, we did this short film. The premises were: We were three persons pr. group, e got two styles, an emotion and a random word. Our styles were Gary Baseman and disney 1928-1930, emotion was fear, random word wig. On this we had to make a story, make storyboards, character designs, backgrounds, colours, animation, sound, compositing, moodboards, a poster, planning... and finally get along in the group as well. It has been two very rough weeks, with a lot of work, late hours and stress. But the final result is something to be proud of.

I did
Animation: Long shot of the snails, the fullshot of the snails eating and getting scared, the salt falling, the longshot of the snail and old lady. All of it rough animation, cleanup and colouring.
Background: the background for the fullshot of the snails, a couple of just colour backgrounds.
All the compositing, including finding and adding sounds.

Thanks to my fellow animators

chase scene

Chase scene on roof tops from Stine Agerskov Frandsen on Vimeo.

More from this week. assignment was to make a chase scene with interesting layouts. Christoffer Andersen and I did this together, we had a day and a half to finish it- Which is why it is not that pretty. But fun, and I think it works.

Castle, Rendered

The rendered version. There are some mistakes but generally I think I did okay. Rendering is most certainly the thing I like the most.

Friday 23 April 2010

castle, lineart

This week we were taught, once again, by Lawrence Marvit. This time Layout was the subject. This castle was our first assignment. we had to make a background for the first act in Hamlet, pinnochio style. Fully rendered and everything. this is the lineart, later I'll upload the rendered version + the rest of what we did this week.

Wednesday 14 April 2010

sketches, march-april 2010 no2

I like these. Especially the little girl looking at tadpoles.

sketches, march-april 2010 no1

I finally got to colour these drawings. It is all just no-purpose-at-all-sketches from my sketchbook, but I like them anyway. I am not good at using watercolour yet, but I'll get there (hopefully.) I am glad that I have started drawing again. last semestre I felt I had completely abandoned it, which is a shame. I really enjoy drawing while listening to inspiring music.

Sunday 11 April 2010

dance animation

dance animation from Stine Agerskov Frandsen on Vimeo.

Five days of work. We could once again choose between some characters and bits of music. I think some parts of this animation works, though th overall thing is a bit weak. I meant it to be that girly.

Tuesday 30 March 2010

Different sketches

colour: watercolour or markers. At the moment I am trying out different styles of drawing; I think one ought to be able to do different stuff.

Monsters, sketches

A couple of monsters I felt like drawing. Partially because i felt like colouring in some drawings - that seems to be my major inspirations at the moment. I kind of like these though.

Friday 26 March 2010

Dialogue, Gorillas

Dialogue; Gorillas from Stine Agerskov Frandsen on Vimeo.

this weeks assignment. We had a couple af different characters to choose between, but I figured these two, kerchak and Kala from Tarzan, Disney, would do the most for me.
Unfortunatly, I do not think I did very well. Anyway, this is it.

Friday 19 March 2010

The Sultan, monologue

Sultan Dialogue from Stine Agerskov Frandsen on Vimeo.

we could choose between some characters, and this is what I ended up witk. We could also choose between two different pieces of sound "there never was much hope... only a fools hope", Gandalf, LOTR and this one - probably from one of the American Pie films.
I went for a not so pose to posey animation. And I think I succeeded in it. also, I am quite surprised at how I had already added opposing acting and such in my keys.
all in all, I'm happy about this work.

coloured sketches, people

I felt like playing around with watercolours and markers. Very fun, I think.

animal sketches with colour

Some sketches I wanted to colour with watercolour.

Bernard waiting

Bernard waiting for bianca from Stine Agerskov Frandsen on Vimeo.

This weeks work - or four days of work, actually. We had to choose another character than last week, something different. And Bernard is quite cool. Assignment: character will be sitting at a table, waiting for someone. You must use 120 frames (5 sec.), ´neither more nor less.
I wanted to do something subtle, and I think I managed to do so.

Character is Bernard from The Rescuers, Disney.

Midway Test

Midway Test from Stine Agerskov Frandsen on Vimeo.

My midyear test, a "how is the exam going to be"-test. We had a week to make a 120 frame long animation featuring the pink panther. He would be lying on the ground, confused, then get angry, get up, run towards the door and try to open it. This is a version both with and without background. Enjoy.

Once more, same concept. One final drawing, some poses with flat colour.

The Maid; Taste by Roald Dahl

The maid - full image with texture, and some poses, as before, not completely done with texture.

Mr Pratt; taste by Roald Dahl

Mr Pratt; the image with texture, and some poses - the colour on those are only to make it read better; they would need texture.

Design, Taste by Roald Dahl

My three character designs for the story Taste by Roald Dahl.
Very different from what I am usually doing, very fun progress.
