A whole lot of sketches...

The supermarket

For commercial project. I was put on the design group, and set out to design the supermarket. This is how it ended up. can't wait for the final result. it is going to be projected onto 3D surfaces, and the animated character is 3D.

We have started working on our commercials for an animal welfare society (dyrenes beskyttelse) - six groups of 8 people; cg artists and animators.

Another bunch of sketches

Today I went to the city again to sketch people. Plus a have been travelling a lot by train this weekend; got a few sketches from there as well (when I didn't work on my current animation assignment). I like sketching stuff, and it is nice to be doing it again. Spring has arrived, and that means a lot to me. My mood goes up and I feel the urge to be creative again.

Sketch Mess

Went to the city the other day with three other girls to sketch the unfortunate people of Viborg. My, I haven't done that for ages. but it was fun. and I plan on colouring some of the sketches with watercolour. Because it has been a while since I have been playing around with real colours and not just photoshop. And because Spring is here, and that should be a colourfull time. :)

My grandmother with my dad in her arms. WIP

Trying to make a portrait of my grandmother. The picture is hanging at my parent's house, and it always makes me happy to see that she has actually been someone else than my old grandmother; she has been young - something I am still not completely able to believe, even now. I just love the original picture. And I hope to do it justice at some point.

Hyena - Project Q

A three week animation. The first week was only spend on planning and rig testing, the two next weeks I animated in MAYA. Morten Bøhne made the model and rigged the thing as well. And matched a plane that fitted the camera and the picture. we were only given 5 seconds, but for my own sake I animated 7. I really wanted to make the walk. Hyenas really walk in this kind of gait. Like giraffes and a few other animals. I worried about this - I don't want people to think I can't make a four legged walk, but our teacher, Jean Ermey, told me not to worry. I went for a very realistic kind of animation, I believe I managed it. THough it still needs a bit of polish.

A crocodile

I just got my "art of kung fu panda" book and got a bit inspired by the wonderful drawings found in that book. drew the sketch for it in my sketchbook, but traced it in photoshop.

more Miyazaki; Porco Rosso

i did the line art when i had the cast on, which meant I had to redo the lines in photoshop. they were way too rough. i love the film Porco Rosso by Hayao Miyazaki. never have I experienced an animation feature with tha much... mood, feel, character. It is a greatly underestimated film. I do not feel that this drawing does it justice though.

Here it is, agin. I spend an extra hour or two to add a bit more to the colouring. I am not any good with mking the light consistent or anything. But colours make me happy.

assignment of the week - a 100 frame action shot. I got the cast off my hand bone is (supposedly) not broken anymore, and I am glad to find that I sure do work faster now.

midterm test; dialgue

this year's test exam; a piece of dialogue, five days to make it. No props allowed. And I spend an entire afternoon at the emergency room getting my broken wrist wrapped up. I do have to work more on this, but I think I did well, considering.
Story of this piece: the character is looking at waitress, telling her that everything is good. then stares t her as she walks away, then turns towards his male friend.

we had a couple of days learning basic ligthing and rendersettings, and a bit of compositing. nice to see something rendered.

Howls moving castle, Sketch

A sketch I did of howls moving castle. I want to finish the colouring, but today I got my right hand and arm put into a gypsum bandage, which temporarily puts my drawings on a hold. Two weeks I have to wear this thing. Enjoy this drawing though. :)

Progression, acting

the last couple of weeks we had to do an acting shot, chosing between "drinking the wrong drink" or "politician has the wrong speech". Our teacher was Michael Berenstein, and he had quite a different way of working than what we are used to. It has been really great exploring another workflow. I also tried out a different kind of animation. I am not really that fond of this animation, but I did learn quite a lot of stuff, which is important to me.

sketches

After drawing hyenas all day, I felt like doing something else. a lot of people are doing a more designed version of their quadroped, as we are allowed to go toony.

project Q, concept

Just a few concept sketches I did for our quadroped project. It's basically a hyena with a bat's "snout" and a pig/warthog's legs and feet. We wanted something very realistic, but with a touch of something else.

it has been a while since I updated my work on this scene - fact is I haven't had time to do the fixes I wanted to do.But now I managed, and I am going to leave this scene for now. Can't wait for the Quadroped project (project Q) to begin!

we've had two weeks to make an animation to a piece of sound. Erik Schmidt, our teacher, had found a dozen clips to choose between, and I figured this piece was niece. It has a sad bitterness to it which I find inspiring. We started out with figuring out the character. who is she? Her name, age, life, what is her want and why? It was really cooll to try out animating facial and lipsync for the first time in 3D. It was very difficult as well, and it still needs a bit of work, but I do like it noe the less. Enjoy!

trailerproject - done

The cg artists have finished the trailerproject, and I can now proudly present the work of Fie Tholander, Nikki Starostka, Martin Pedersen, and my fellow animators Benny Søhave and Kenneth Ladekjær. It has been a lot of fun, a great project, and I am proud of what we have done in such a reasonably short amount of time. Enjoy!

A tiger! Well, in a photoshop mood. Here's a quick tiger I made (from the time when i uploaded my last post and till now). For my cousin Kasper (soon to be 18 years old. So what if it's a childish drawing!)

The fun of monday

Felt like making something that I hadn't done in a while. This time I only used photoshop, and made the mistake of not having a particular character in mind. But it was fun to make anyway.

panda number two

yet another panda. Watched Kung Fu Panda scenes in super slow motion, trying hard to gain the secret knowledge of making awesome animation. This put me in quite a panda mood. Felling all overwhelmed by christmas, I have chosen to give this to my cousin Louise.

Is sitting at school, it's kind of late, and I have just drawn a quick panda in photoshop. Made me think of my brother, and I have therefor given it to him. hope he likes it.

the cga class have been working in groups of four or three people on redesigning an old film and making a trailer for it - they have been working on the project since september. I worked with three animators on the project Jules et Jim, directed and created by Nikki, Fie and Martin from the CGA class. They have made the designs, the animatic, the modelling, the rigging... everything that is not animation. This bit is the scenes I have been animating. Can't wait to see it all with lights and all. going to be pretty!

Lift-facial

The exercise of the last week and three days. This was meant to teach us about lifting something (weight), facial and how to use constraints in Maya. For the first time we have also been using a few scripts; zvparentmaster made the constraints a lot easier.
I hope to get some time to work more on this assignement - I think I have a nice basic animation, and it could use some finesse and more frames to linger on some poses. It was loads of fun to do an acting scene again - the last couple of assignments have been cycles, which is nice but a lot more strict.

After dailies I made a few small adjustments, mostly timing. I hope to get back to this assignemnt - it could still need something special, and hopefully I will get better at making that special thing during the next couple of months.

at the moment we are doing a lift, our teacher is Sidney Padua. It's been a while since we've had an exercise that was not a cycle, and it's fun to be back in a less strict environment. I am trying to focus a bit more on planning and working my keys properly. We have the entire next week to be working on this, including learning theory on facial and the dynamics of lifts.
These two animatics are based on videoreference I made the first evening.

A lot of sketches

I am trying to achieve one of my goals for this semester - fill out an entire sketchbook. I went to Flensbourg, Germany, during the autumn holiday where I got some new markers. How I love markers, and my new skincolour collection from copics is awesome.
These sketches represent: some fanart (I like Despicable me and the artist who is doing "hark, a vagrant") and a lot of my own stuff. Watercolour or markers or nothing.

My first fourlegged walk. I have already done some changes, and our teacher, Sidney Padua is going to comment on those and probably help me fix it a bit = I am going to post another version (a better version) of this walk in a couple of days). I do think I managed to do an okay walk.

Carrot salesman

At the animation Workshop we have an ongoing project called TAWMonkey. Every week there is a new topic, and we just make a drawing for it. this week it was carrot salesman, and for the first time my mind came up with a drawing very fast. This is just a quick sketch, coloured with makers.

Sketch, girl on floor

Didn't know what to do last evening. In the end I opened up photoshop and tried to make´something. anything. and a pink blob of colour became the head, inspiring me to continue. It didn't take too long, and I still don't know what to think of it.
